In 1979 Bette Midler put out a very camp disco song called "My Knight In Black Leather". It was a great dance track. Bette must have had her tongue firmly planted in her cheek. The single did big business in Oz but only minor business in the USA.
The album version went for nearly 5 mins but the edited single ran 3:30 mins. The vinyl single is hard to locate nowadays and I don't think the edited version has ever been on CD.
Here for download is the single edit of "My Knight In Black Leather":

Thanks for this. I have been searching for it for a long time.
ReplyDeleteWith regards the Bette Midler "My Knight In Black Leather" track, huge thanks for posting it, most appreciated.
ReplyDeleteIn Europe (Well Scandanavia at least as that is the only release reference I can find) it looks like they released the album version on 7 inch as it clocks up to the same 4:53 time...there is a 12 inch German version which is nearly seven minutes in length, I would love to hear that!
I really like this track and it is suprising how little it is known given its wonderful camp subject matter and classic disco delivery.

ReplyDeletei just downloaded from Henry's mediafire link in jan. 2012, so that one is working fine. thanks, guys, for this! i am from the U.S. and i was 19 in '79 and liked bette midler but didn't even hear this one till the late 90's. yes, it should have been a hit. Probably "too" campy for middle america.... yet i'm surprised no one picked up on it at any of the gay dance clubs i went to in those days.
ReplyDeletelove this song any way of getting the 7" version reuploaded?
ReplyDeletePlease upload or link to the tom mix edit, thanx :-=)
